Oh boy what a day...

I left my house at 5:00 a.m. and arrived at Blue Heron around 7:45 in the morning. Right around that time some of the other scubaboard guys showed up. Before we went into the water there was a group of about 15 of us. Most were complaining about the "cold weather" and "cold 75 degree" water. I couldn't help but chuckle inside a little bit.

Viz was about 30-40feet, my max depth was a whopping 17 feet and I logged a dive of 1 hour and 17 minutes with half a tank left at the end. Temp registered at 72 degrees. People were freezing when they got out of the water, I was like ehh..no biggie :)

Blue Heron was AWESOME - I saw so many cool critters, sea slugs, sea centipedes, sea urchins (tons of em different colors too), big 3lb sheepshead, baby lobsters, spider crabs, regular crabs, puffer fish all puffed out, starfish the size of my chest and jelly fish the size of dinner plates. But the best thing was the octopus!! I got to see one!! He was hiding in the sand and let us get real close to him, you could see him looking at us. Finally he squirted some ink and took off. WOW that was so worth the drive!!

I was disappointed at the lack of respect of some of the divers, picking up star fish, harassing lobsters ect... some people had no buoyancy control at all, dragging regs on the sand...thanks to my wonderful Dayo training I definitely was one of the only divers in control of my gear and buoyancy I didn't pick up any critters. Kinda sad some divers are like that :(

Here's the twist:
2 divers of our group while diving found a dead body floating in the water. No I am not kidding. No he was not scuba diver. When we surfaced the two divers had managed to get the body to shore and called police. A crime scene was setup around the body which just so happened to be about 15 feet from our BBQ table.

So here we are having a full on BBQ with ALLLLLL the fixins..and there is a dead guy and police right next to us. Morbid? You bet.

It got even more disturbing when for some reason the police decided to no longer cover up the body so everyone could clearly see it. The police line was maybe 6 feet away so everyone who wanted to get a look at it could. Kinda disturbing. Then the police realize its going to take awhile for the medical examiner to show up and decide 'hey lets join the BBQ', so now we have a cop eating with us while seagulls and pelicans move in towards the body. Other police spray water at the birds to keep them away.

Talk about a weird ass dive!

If you remove the whole dead guy out of the equation it was a fantastic dive and I highly recommend it. It cost me all of a whopping $22 for gas round trip.

Pics coming soon - Steve from Deep Six took some cool pics and video underwater and he said he's going to share them. No not of the body so don't even ask that's just creepy.

I did my best to look at his hands to see if he had a ring, I couldn't tell I just hope he didn't leave a wife and kids behind. Police said he was 42 years old and may have died due to being drunk/drown. No signs of trauma on the body. Judging by the look of the body without going into detail he was in the water maybe 24-48 hrs.

Whoever you are may you rest in peace.

I like my day at Kevin and Courtney's wedding better... What was the water temp? It was 74F in the ocean the previous week.

Computer registered 72 degrees but it felt a lot warmer to me. I was in the water over an hour and didn't get cold at all
