Anyone have suggestions where to go Kayaking near Orlando? We were thinking of Wekiwa Springs State Park unless anyone has a better suggestion.

This is a place to look into... I haven't gone on a tour with these folks yet but I have spent time in the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and it's very beautiful. They say the best way to see the wildlife is by kayak. I think they have the option of day or night tours as well as renting from them and going off on your own for the day...

That reminds me, Denise - we've got to book our bioluminescent tour soon!

I've heard that Ron John in Cocoa rents kayaks for $30/day.
You can hit up mosquito lagoon or the ocean depending on conditions.
Besides that the St. Johns is kinda cool to kayak.

I maybe into this if you wanted some extra company on a weekend.

I have never been to Canaveral National Seashore or Suwannee River but have heard both are great kayaking spots.

My favorite spots are not exactly close to Orlando but still make a great day trip. Sebastian River is one, about 1.5 hours away, and is scenic with a lot of alligators for the 'thrill factor'. Also the inlet there is neat with a lot of stuff to see but research the tides beforehand as the current can get swift. This can be a good thing if you like the exercise. If you are into wildlife viewing and exploring small cuts lined with mangroves the Merritt Island Refuge is great.

You can't go wrong with Wekiva, its a beautiful river. I'm not sure about the water level, if it's still up or not so check on that. Another of my favorite spots is on the St Johns at Tosohatchee WMA. Take hwy 50 east toward Christmas, right near the entrance to Fort Christmas Park, but on the other side of the road you'll see Taylor Creek Road. Take that to the park entrance. You can also get there from SR520 if you're comming from the south. At the entrance grab a park map. Follow the powerline road all the way to the river. Once there if you go south you'll hit some of my secret bass fishing spots. If you go north you'll eventually get to puzzle lake (bring a GPS so you don't get lost). There are tons of big alligators so be prepared for that.

In the park there is also a small creek, called Jim Creek. It should be paddleable (is that even a word?) with all of the recent rain. There are otters and other things to see there.

Yeah, we'll let you know - I'm not sure when Denise has her next "dry" weekend but we'll have to grab her then!
