Australia is a large unique island located in the Indian Ocean, with more than 20,000 miles of magnificent coastline. Australia has a variety of climates; tropical in the north (with distinct wet and dry seasons), and temperate in the south, with warm summers and cool winters. Water temperature varies greatly with location and season. The average water temperature is around 81F on northern coastlines, and down to around 61F off the southern states.
Australia has superb diving locations and opportunities, which vary immensely from coast to coast. The world renowned Great Barrier Reef runs along the north east coast, with an amazing diversity of coral reef life. There are hundreds of good wreck dives, and opportunities to view sharks and whales, up close! Divers regularly see turtles, seals and octopus and sharks. They are so many coral reefs in Australia, it would take a lifetime to see them all!
