Tim started his Overhead Course, last month with Denise. For the IANTD Overhead course, we do a day or twos diving in the caverns, and a days diving in the Ocean in shipwrecks. After some academics and line drills at the Dayo Store, we visited Manatee Springs (http://www.scubadiver.cc/forums/showthread.php?t=1740) cavern for the first "wet" day of training. Throughout the day we did a bunch of dives in the Catfish Hotel cavern.

Visibility in the basin and cavern was 30-40 feet, 71 degrees throughout. The flow was moderate, and there was bunches of catfish in the cavern zone.
On day two Tim and TJ headed off to the ocean to do some more dives there. They dived the Castor Shipwreck off Boynton Beach with Captain Larry on the Dolphin Sun Dive Charter Boat.
The M/V Castor was sunk on December 14, 2001 as part of the Artificial Reef Program of Palm Beach County. She measures 258 feet long by 37 feet wide and rises to within 65 feet of the surface. The main deck is at 90 feet and the maximum depth of 110 feet to the sand. She sits upright with the bow pointing south. Giant Goliath groupers (jewfish) have made their homes in this huge wreck as well as hundreds of barracuda, grunts and a multitude of coral creatures.

In the ocean that day we were treated to nice warm water and were the only ones on the wreck that day. The viz was so-so, maybe 50 of so feet, and we encountered a thermocline as we hit the wreck. The surface waters were 83 degrees and it dropped to 75ish on the wreck.

Inside they came across some giant groupers, and between the inside and outside they counted 16 of these monsters!

Tim decided it was best to give these guys right of way inside the wreck :)

They reported nice conditions inside the wreck, good viz and not too much silt.

A fun time was had by all, and congrats to Tim who did really well in his Overhead Course! :armata_PDT_34:
