TDI Trimix Training in Forty Fathoms

Christopher came all the way down from Georgia this week for his TDI Normoxic Trimix (http://www.scubadiver.cc/forums/showthread.php?t=1663) training. We did two days diving at the newly renovated Forty Fathoms Grotto (http://www.scubadiver.cc/forums/showthread.php?t=1751).

The staff at Forty Fathoms Grotto (http://www.scubadiver.cc/forums/showthread.php?t=1751) have been hard at work for the last few months, and the place looks GREAT! There are new classrooms, accommodations and a canteen serving hot food on site now.

The commercial dive station is also set up on site, with its own hyperbaric chamber:

The most impressive change at Forty Fathoms, is the visibility, the water is crystal clear blue water!!! You can see most of the platforms from the surface......its amazing!

Christopher was the only student in class, and Chris L swam along. We arrived to Forty Fathoms Grotto early both days, made out our dive plans with the help of V Planner. We got our gear together, and staged everything down in the water.

Day One (Saturday) we did two dives to 160 and 180 feet. We used a backgas mix of 21/30 on the bottom and O2 to deco on. Day Two we did two 200 foot dives, we had a backgas of 19/35 and used Nitrox 32% and O2 to deco on.

The visibility amazing, absolutely incredible. We didn't even turn on our lights on Saturday, it was clear all the way down. The water was an amazing azure blue, it looked like the ocean. Similar conditions on Sunday, we turned our lights on briefly at the bottom, but you could see well without them! Water temperature ranged from 67-70 degrees (we all wore drysuits), and topside it was 90+ degrees, but no bugs :)

On the top of the hill (over the boat line), you could see all the boats, the tow sub, satellite dish, vehicles, and all the surrounding walls of the grotto, it was amazing. After diving there for many years in less than 20 foot of viz, this time I saw more in one single dive than i did in all previous trips!
