I assume there are quite a few nature lovers here, so I thought that I would mention this place. It's a beautiful ranch/nature preserve, and they have quite a few interesting activities. Kimbo and I did the midnight zipline tour and had a great time, we plan to go back soon for some horseback riding.

There's a great amount of wildlife: tons of deer, peacocks, gators, boar, wild cats... there's even a little mini-zoo area where they have a cougar and a couple of other cats, some snakes and gators.

They are struggling to get the word out, it sounds like their business is hurting a little, and they're trying to raise awareness and let people know what they have to offer. Check them out, if you're into that sort of thing!

Oh man, do you know how long I've been looking for a place to do a Cattle Drive?

Crescent J Cattle Drive Weekend

Learn the skills of a real Florida Cow Hunter, then put those skills to the test. Join up with the ranch hands to learn the skills of a real Florida cow hunter including roping, riding and cow cutting. They'll get you an inside look at the operations of the Crescent J ranch and then let you put those skills to the test on a 3 day cattle drive adventure. Working together the team will move the heard of Spanish Colonial Cattle to their destination, experience the wonders of Florida's wilderness and enjoy campfire meals and sleeping under the stars.

This is now on my to do list.

Oo! Have you had personal experience with these guys?

I've been thinking about doing one of their equestrian trips for a couple years now, but I'm always hesitant to trust commercial equestrian operations without some recommendations from folks who have seen their facility. (I've seen too many shoddy places which are basically abusing their animals for the sake of tourist trips.)

Love to hear from somebody who has actually been there! (Particularly about the conditions of where the horses are kept and such.)

Of course, the other problem is that most of their really appealing trips are a 2 person minimum. Why do us solo travelers always gotta get screwed? Hmph.

Zip lining in Florida?! Cool I'm in!

I would also be in for the horseback riding however a certain (cough cough Megan) dayo diver (ahem..Megan) has a horse. I wont mention any names though. :icon_lol:

I would be down to setup a group trip out there sounds neat!

We took a pretty brief tour through the place, from the initial sign-in area, to the area where they start the zipline tours... but I have to admit that we didn't see the stables (we didn't have much time). We talked to one of the managers there for about an hour about the facility and got a really positive feeling about it, but no firsthand experience yet, sorry! We will be going back soon for one of the equestrian tours, I'll report back.

We are always looking for an excuse to get out and do stuff like this, so let me know any time you want to go; I'm sure we'd be up for it!

BTW, the zip-line "tour" isn't exactly a thrilling one... it's more relaxing than anything. But it is fun, and worth doing; I'd go at night again, it would be pretty hot during the day.
